I know I wrote something like this like a week ago, but this is different. This isn't problems, this is clichés. Character misinterpretations, plot devices, and OC tropes specific to TFP go here.

1. Knockout the creeper
In many fanfics I see in which the femme OC joins/is held prisoner by the Decepticons, Knockout is portrayed as being sexually harassing. Not only is this frustrating to fans of Knockout, but this cliché has Canon evidence against it! In an episode I think in the third season (I forget the name and number), Knockout clearly states that the whole idea of "interfacing" disgusts him. (I believe this suggestive dialogue was removed in the TV aired episode, but I watch on Netflix, which is how I found the line) He is Asexual, which means he is not interested in sexual relationships. But don't worry shippers! Asexual people can still have romantic relationships, can be queer, and even enjoy romantic activities. Just nothing sexual. So maybe a pass to a new hot crewmate would be appropriate, but a full on meet-me-in-bed pickup line to a prisoner is OOC and just creepy.

2. Miko the plot device
'Nuff said. I understand she gets into a little trouble in season 1, but she quickly learns not to do stuff like that anymore. If Miko runs through the groundbridge to watch the Autobots fight in a story taking place after the pilot episodes, she becomes a plot device. Find some other way to get the kids into the story. She's also not a Mary-sue, just in case you were wondering.

3. the Iacon relics
There is only a certain amount of Iacon relics on Earth: those that were in the actual Database. I'm not going to believe you when you say "Oh yeah Alpha Trion lost track of one unknown artifact" because 1. That's disrespectful to Alpha Trion 2. Why would an unknown artifact be on display in the hall of records? Wouldn't it be in a lab or something? And why did no one record it's existence, if that is the case? If you need a good excuse for a certain character to ____ (fill in the blank, really. Shrink/grow, age/de-age, switch bodies, etc.) then try to find a different way to do it. Or use an existing relic with some wires changed or something like that! What happens when the Immobilizer gets put back together again, and something wasn't done correctly? What happens when the forge is in a Prime's hand and he uses it on someone? For a way without any relics, try getting struck by lighting, Shockwave, or something else entirely. The only exception to this rule (or at least I think) is some form of time machine left on Cybertron. (if you understood that reference, well: YOU GOT THE TOUCH!)

4. "Innocent"
STOP TRYING TO PROVE MEGATRON "INNOCENT" SO YOUR GOODY-TWO-SHOES OC CAN DATE HIM!!! Alright, done yelling. A simple solution to this problem is to make your OC have a darker side. Megatron isn't going to want any of his soldiers/love interests to hate killing or faint at the sight of blood. He doesn't need a good snuggle to make him realize his wrongs.  Megatron is not a good guy, and that's not a bad thing! It adds a different flavor to his character you wouldn't get if he was a hero. Don't change his character to make yours fit into the story better. In fact, rule of thumb here: try to write Canon characters as accurately as you can unless that's the entire point of the story.

5. The Prime problem
If your OC dates Optimus, that's all good and nice for you. However, Optimus may be sweet in private or something like that, but he wouldn't be caught dead being open about it. He would never pick her over other teammates just "because". In fact, your OC could possibly get mad over his lack of affection in public. Remember the "Primes don't laugh"? And how all the fangirls SQUEE whenever he smiles because it's something he rarely does? Optimus might be a good date in private, but he doesn't do public displays of affection, so keep this to a minimum.

6. Over-vilifying
Having a Canon character be an antagonist in a story can be really cool. But if you over-vilify the characters, fans of that character get driven away from the story. The top two characters I see getting vilified are Arcee and Ultra Magnus. Arcee doesn't like Decepticons, sure, but she isn't going to hate your OC because your OC was tricked by them. Ultra Magnus is very by the book, but he isn't going to draw his weapon at someone goofing around. Don't go to extreme*! The only exception would be Starscream or Megatron. Make them as evil as you want.
*unless this is the entire point of your story. I read a really good fic with a super over-vilified character and it was really good because it was intentional.

7. Sob stories
It took a long time for Arcee to open up about her history with Cliffjumper. It took a sudden turn of events to reveal who Orion Pax was and his role in Megatron's rise to power. Canon characters aren't going to tell their deepest secret to any new team member. They might not even tell their secrets to each other! Remember Smokescreen in Predacons rising? Nobody knew he almost became a Prime until the end where he thought he was going to die and he told them! That sort of stuff doesn't come out easily. Same goes for any OC. They aren't going to tell everyone their tragic backstory. (If they do, They're probably a Mary-sue) Secret sharing can be a great character development, but it shouldn't be casual. It represents a deep bond between characters: that they trust each other not to tell.

8. Ancient prophecies
This is the exact same thing as Iacon relics. If you need something to happen, please don't do a prophecy.

I think I'm done for right now. You will probably see more of this. I am being so cynical XD! I should probably stop. If you think I mentioned any of your stories in a bad way, please comment and I will take care of it.
